We’re at the end of August and I have no idea where the time has gone. We purchased our first home in December of last year, and ever since then, it seems like time has sped up massively.
It’s been a minute since I’ve talked about what projects I’m working on! So let’s go through them one by one and I’ll give you an update.
AI Fox Mittens Pattern

I have made some progress on these, but I seem to have lost the papers I was taking notes on. I will definitely keep working on this project, but I may end up forgetting some of the issues I encountered early on in the pattern.
Crochet Sunflowers

I made so many of these, leading up to May 31, the day we hosted our wedding reception. They were pretty simple to make, and I ended up enjoying the rhythm of making them over and over, not needing to read the pattern after the first few were complete. I think I made over 30 in the end. I have a few for sale if you click here.
Labubu Hats

I fell victim to the current zeitgeist and got myself a labubu. I of course then started looking at all the adorable outfits you can make for them. I found this cute beanie pattern by Stephanie Jessica Liu. I couldn’t help but make it in a few colors, and really love how it’s a great stash busting pattern. It’s a crochet pattern that’s designed to look like a ribbed knit pattern. I actually have a few up for sale in my Poshmark because the designer notes that you are allowed to sell these if she is credited.
Decoy Hornets Nest

This is perhaps the most practical pattern I have ever made. On our back porch, we knocked down a wasp or hornets nest when we first moved in. As the weather started warming up, I noticed wasps coming around looking for a place to make their home. I decided to try a decoy nest, and found several patterns for them. So rather than buying one from Amazon, I used some of the yarn I had unraveled from an old sweater, and made my own basically for free. Amazingly I think it has worked! I’ve seen a few wasps around, but no new nests! You can find this pattern for free by clicking here.
Mae Tee

I bought this pattern a long time ago, but never had the right yarn to make it. When Joann Fabric was having their going-out-of-business sales, I picked up a neutral brown yarn without a specific idea of what I wanted to make. Well I needed an interim project using stash yarn (I’m not sure I’ve bought any new yarn for myself since we bought the house!), and this yarn ended up giving me just about the right gauge for the Mae tee! I may have calculated wrong however, because I ended up having to restart the tee 3 times because it was turning out way too big. This part was quite frustrating, but once I was working on the size that would fit me, it was an easy and fun pattern to work on! It still ended up a little big on me, but it is meant to be oversized!
Commissioned Cardigan – Winters Beach Cardi

While my aunt was visiting for our wedding reception, she mentioned that she would love a cardigan that I would make if I was up for it. I showed her some of the patterns I already owned, and to my delight she loved the Winters Beach Cardi. This has been one of my favorite patterns to knit and wear. I’m at least halfway through it right now and hope to be able to ship it to her before cooler weather rolls in!
Finest Kind Sweater

This project was started with poor planning, and I even knew it at the time. I started by using some unspun yarn I got at the Rhinebeck Sheep and Wool Festival last year, and I knew I wouldn’t have enough for the whole thing. I think I was imagining I’d order more once I needed to, or maybe it would magically cover more ground than it said it would, but I’m now to the part where I’m going to need to order more yarn very soon. I’m really enjoying the look of the sweater so far, and it might be one of those rare patterns where I’ll want to make a second one!
I’m hoping to wrap up these projects and complete a few more before the end of the year, but we shall see! I’d like to make a sweater or maybe even a costume for Halloween, but that is coming up very very quickly! I’ll keep you posted.
Meanwhile, what projects are on your needles? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
